Steve Ivester on Issues
Our country is facing a number of crises. So many of
our families are broken. Our nation is in a puzzling war. Our region has
high unemployment, and we have lost a large percentage of our manufacturing
jobs. The country’s legal and educational systems are struggling. Our world is
faced with environmental and economic uncertainty.
In times past, the Democratic Party has shown a
willingness and an ability to solve problems like these in the interests of
all the people. Unlike some in Washington, I believe the golden age of the
United States is still in front of us. However, the nation has taken a
number of unfortunate directions in the past forty years. It is time for
course corrections to be made.
While I am a lifelong Democrat, I am not an extremist. I am a centrist. My philosophy is conservative on spending and moderate on
social issues. I am concerned about the growth of federal government
spending, the balance of trade, and government bureaucracy. However, I
believe some things are better handled on a public basis. I believe the
Military and Social Security are issues that should be handled primarily as
public functions at various levels of the government. I am coming to the
opinion that Universal Healthcare Insurance might better be handled by a
single public agency. Certainly this option for healthcare funding should be
on the table.
I will do an outstanding job in Congress for the 10th
District. I enjoy policy development and understand the give-and-take of
enacting laws and creating policy. I am creative and bring fresh ideas and a
strong technical and business background that will serve the district well. I can effectively reach out and work with both Republicans and Independents
to get what we in the District need. I think the 10th District voters are
looking for someone who understands the problems/needs and represents the
traditional values of the district, but with the breadth and experience to
carry the district into the future.
